Arts around the Mid-coast; June 9, 2011

On Newbury Street there will be a trapeze swing. A 25-foot rock wall for climbers of all ages and abilities will be installed on upper Market Street along with a bungee trampoline that launches people two stories in the air.  Traditional amusement rides are located on Federal Street with a train ride, spin the apple and pirate ship rides, plus a fun house. Receptions will be held at several galleries including Bayview Gallery, Summer Island Studio — Gallery of Fine Artisans, Whatnot Gallery at Spindleworks, Points of View, Gallery Framing and The Brunswick Inn. The Bowdoin College Museum of Art is open for the evening. Summer Island Studio will feature “New England Villages” by Jan Kilburn. Performers are Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out, Nothin’ Fancy, The Little Roy and Lizzy Show, Dan Paisley and The Southern Grass, White Mountain Bluegrass, The Bluegrass Diamonds, Wilf Clark and The Misty Mountaineers, Acoustic Blue, Phat Grass, Blue Around the Edges, Cumberland Crossing, Robinson Gospel Sing Along and Jam, and Blistered Fingers. Brown was a planter who settled on the east bank of the Damariscotta River, nearly opposite the west bank 17th century homestead of Walter Phillips. During the outbreak of King Philip’s War in 1676, Brown, Phillips, and four other settlers in the Damariscotta region fled, never to return; their houses were burned, and their improved lands reverted to wilderness. Local artists donating works are Keith Oehmig of Wiscasset Bay Gallery;  Sylvia Dyer of Brunswick; Catherine Worthington of Brunswick; Sandi Donnelly of Freeport; and also pieces by Keith Field, Lydia Sparrow, Sean Arnold of Brunswick; Mary Berry, Joli Greene of Freeport; Bridget McAlonan of Topsham; Susan Perrine of Woolwich; Damariscotta Pottery of Damariscotta, Anna Shaw of Newcastle and Dahlov Ipcar of Georgetown. The first concert will take place on Friday, June 10 at 8 p.m. at the Great Hall of the Dunaway Center where members of the Boston Chamber Music Society, pianist Randall Hodgkinson and clarinetist Thomas Hill will be joined by guest soprano Jayne West. The theme of the concert is “Summer Song” with music by Arnold Cooke, Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Barber, and Louis Spohr, and a finale, “American Songbook,” featuring the music of Gershwin et al and the music of the American theater and stage. The Saturday, June 11 concert takes place at 8 p.m. at the Barn Gallery.

I was sitting here tonight contemplating my purpose in life and everything.  More specifically about my career.  I feel that I am destined for great things.  Not like CEO type stuff, but to be something more than the average working slob.  If I am still working a corporate job when I retire, then my career has been a failure.  Screw a five year plan, I have a two year plan to quit the rat race and achieve financial Independence. When that occurs I will no longer have to worry about getting fired, because I answer to no one but myself, and I will not have to worry about money.  I do not wish to be a slave to the system, and I am working toward freeing myself.
