TRIVIUM: Performance Footage Of New Song Available - June 20, 2011

Fan-filmed video footage of Florida metallers TRIVIUM performing a brand new song, "Black" , on June 19, 2011 at the Asylum in Birmingham, England can be viewed below. The track comes off the band's new album, "In Waves" , which will be released on August 9 via Roadrunner Records . The follow-up to 2008's "Shogun" was recorded primarily at Paint It Black Studios in Orlando, Florida (with only the drums having been tracked at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida) with the production/mixing team of Colin Richardson ( MACHINE HEAD , BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE , SLIPKNOT , FEAR FACTORY ) and Martin "Ginge" Ford , along with engineer Carl Bown .

TRIVIUM exploded onto the global metal scene with its Roadrunner debut album, "Ascendency" (2005), which was certified gold in the U.K. (and earned the band the 2005 "Best New International Artist" honors in Kerrang! magazine). Extremely young at the time and with songwriting and musicianship far beyond their years, the band toured with giants of the metal world, including IRON MAIDEN , SLIPKNOT , METALLICA , HEAVEN & HELL and many more. Over the course of those years and albums — including 2006's "The Crusade" and 2008's "Shogun" — the band honed their skills even further, while sharpening their vision for the band and its music. In the words of vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy , this new album is the culmination: " 'In Waves' to us… is TRIVIUM . 'In Waves' is the music, the artwork, the videos and the live show; they are all part of an interconnected whole. There's no question about it, in our eyes, that this is the most complete project we've ever done. We think we've finally made the record that we’ve always strived to make."

While the tracks boast the guitar-driven edge that fans have come to love and expect from the band — pushing some of the tracks even further in their heaviness and aggression — the visual and lyrical world that "In Waves" inhabits is overall a fantastic leap forward for the band.

That's what that song is about. Our look is obviously very much inspired by Mad Max and post-apocalyptic warrior movies with body paint and all of that. We enjoy that image. I'm a big fan of comic books and comic book films. I've always been a big fan

super groovy delicious bite: paint it black

Forty five years ago the Stones painted the charts black with this depressive raga. According to Bill Wyman, the song was a collective effort of the group, and should have been credited Nanker/Phelge, the band's pseudonym for compositions credited to the entire group. It started out as a slow soul song that took on a middle-eastern double-time after some studio improvisation with Bill Wyman, co-manager Eric Easton, and Charlie Watts. Brian Jones played the sitar on the song, inspired by the new rhythm. Keith Richards recalls, "We were in Fiji for about three days. They make sitars and all sorts of Indian stuff. Sitars are made out of watermelons or pumpkins or something smashed so they go hard. They're very brittle and you have to be careful how you handle them. We had the sitars, we thought we'd try them out in the studio. To get the right sound on Paint It Black we found the sitar fitted perfectly. We tried a guitar but you can't bend it enough." Mick Jagger considers "That was the time of lots of acid. It has sitars on it. It's like the beginnings of miserable psychedelia. That's what the Rolling Stones started - maybe we should have a revival of that." Allen Klein owns the rights to the song, having tricked the band into signing over their publishing rights of all of the songs they had written before 1969 to him. 'Paint It Black' topped the charts in Canada, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US.
