The “Color the Town Pink” effort included features on breast cancer survivors, information about the disease and the importance of early diagnosis, encouragement for the display of pink ribbons and bows and a “Color the Town Pink” walk co-hosted by the City of Wetumpka.

Businesses were encouraged to designate days for all employees to dress in pink and the newspaper made liberal use of the color on items from its front page to subscriber labels.

The Most Improved award was the result of a six-month redesign process, which included changes to the newspaper’s layout and design, increased locally-generated stories and photographs, the addition of a business page in the weekend edition and an increased online presence through the newspaper’s website and Facebook page.
