What I Love About My Dad

Happy Father’s Day, South Cobb.

I’m spending today with my father.

My dad taught me how to ride a bike, and he taught me how to drive a car. He washed my hair in the kitchen sink and would watch "Blossom" with me when he’d rather watch football. He kept the macaroni art and handmade snowflake ornaments I made as a child, and he came to every recital, every choral performance, every play and poetry reading I had. He made me chuckle and shake my head with his corny jokes and country sayings.

I am so grateful for him and what he's done. Since it’s Father’s Day, I thought I’d share the reasons I love him.

Comedian Chris Rock joked in one of his stand-up specials that a father’s main goal is keeping his daughter “off the pole.” It’s funny, but also has a bit of truth as silly as that sounds.

A father (and a mother) should make sure that their children know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are loved by their parent(s.) When a child is loved by the people who raised her, then she can go on to excel because she believes in her abilities and is able to love others.

Thank you, Dad, for loving me as much as you have and as much as you do. I’m not saying that he’s perfect, but he is intentional in all that he does, and he’s nothing short of incredible. Even with his corny jokes and country sayings.

By the way, here's a funny (and sad but true) anecdote. I had already been on H1-B status with my current employer for over a year when I engaged HR to start my green card/adjustment of status process. The answer I got from the HR person was "Oh, sorry, but we don't sponsor"...I was frozen! Did not know whether to laugh or cry out loud! "But dear, you already have sponsored me!" I told the poor lady..... There should be a way to find out who in USCIS comes up with these new rule suggestions. Where do all the proposed rule changes published? At the USCIS press release? May be the actual press release has some information. There has got be to a way to find out from either press department or someone who or what part of USCIS makes these suggestions and then may be we can make send them our auggestions. It is bit shocking to know that one will have to pay for just AC21 notification. I mean, if you already have lawyer associated with your GC file, which I believe, most of us should have either appointed by our employer OR hired by ourselves (Many companies give a choice to hire "your own" lawyer). I understand that since one change the employment, the general criteria is to assume that the lawyer (If paticularly appointed by past employer) is now no more attached to the case. But in truth it is not. Fulfilling AC21 notification is part of the whole end to end package since case remains same unless you notify USCIS to change your attorney. In my case I was given a choice to hire "My Own lawyer" and once I started to work on EAD, virtually now he is my lawyer not "my employer's lawyer" and hence he will be sending AC21 related paperwork to USCIS though he told me that he would not do it right now as he is busy with H1 filing load. And yes no extra cost involved.
