Checkers looking westward in 2011-12
In their second season American Hockey, the Charlotte Checkers will move to the west, as they play 11 new teams in 2011-2012. The season starts on the road Oct. 7 against the Norfolk Admirals.
In July, the AHL moved the Checkers of the Eastern Conference to the Western Conference, an alignment that will bring major market teams like Chicago, Houston, Milwaukee and Lake Erie Time Warner Cable Arena.
The game of Checkers "the first house will be Oct. 15 against the Peoria Rivermen of the Midwest Division, of which Charlotte is now a member.The Ladies division opponents play in Peoria, Chicago, Milwaukee and Rockford each eight games, four home and four on the road.
Fans can also see the Texas, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Grand Rapids and Abbotsford. The ladies visit Abbotsford, about 2,300 miles of Charlotte, British Columbia, on 20-21 January, the Heat visit Charlotte on April 6 and 8.
Two rivals in the East Division last season remain with the schedule - the Norfolk Admirals and Hershey Bears. The Ladies of Norfolk meet eight times and four times Hershey.Charlotte will not play the defending Champions League Binghamton Senators, who swept the Ladies 4-0 in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Casey Borer defender will play this season for HC Pardubice, Czech Republic after signing a one-year contract. Borer, 26, had 14 points (2g, 12a) in 67 regular season games and three (1g, 2a) in 15 playoff games Calder Cup with the Checkers in 2010-11. He has 16 games of NHL experience, all with Carolina.

The American Hockey League released its schedule for 2011-12 season today, and the Charlotte Checkers will begin their second full season on the road AHL October 7, on the road in Norfolk against the Admirals a pair of games to start the season. The Ladies will open up the game home schedule on October 15th at Time Warner Cable Arena when they welcome in the Peoria Rivermen. The Ladies will have a long road trip in the Midwest Division on their schedule this season, as they will start the trip on Oct. 28 in Oklahoma City where they face the Barons of the first meeting between the two teams.Charlotte will continue to see some of their former enemies of the Eastern Conference in the calendar, as they face the Admirals this season and eight times the 2011-12 season will end April 15 in Milwaukee against the Admirals. Charlotte will play 76 games this season, with all 38 home games played at Time Warner Cable Arena.
