Celebrate Led Zeppelin at the Enmore

LED Zeppelin have gone down as one of the greatest rock bands in history.

Between their heavier rock tracks like Immigrant Song, to symphony-style songs like Kashmir and the classic Stairway to Heaven, the band never missed a beat.

It’s no surprise that they’ve influenced bands throughout the ages.

And some of rock’s greatest singers will be celebrating Led Zeppelin at the Whole Lotta Love show.

Back for the ninth year, they’ve recruited Jeff Martin from the Tea Party, Steve Balbi from Noiseworks, Simon Meli from Sway, Zkye and Natasha Stuart.

They will be joined by an eight- piece band lead by musical and artistic director Joseph Calderazzo on guitar.

Martin said he loves the band’s melodic approach to rock’n roll, some of his favourite songs being Kashmir and When the Levy Breaks and Physical Graffiti is his favourite album.

“For me, Led Zeppelin has always been the rock’n roll band in terms of mystique, sexuality and power,” he said.

Martin said he knows the crowd will have high expectations, but is looking forward to doing the band justice, being a big fan from when he started playing guitar at seven-years-old.

“What Jimmy (Page) did, no one has come close to the way that he used guitar,” he said.

But when I wasn't blasting Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, Neil Young's Zuma, or Thin Lizzy's Fighting, I remember how it was nice to take a break from the cranked Les Pauls and mellow out to some folky, melodic soft-rock.

Though steeped in controversy, I believe it is, and a rather primal one at that if you think about how earliest man was painting on his cave walls.

Which might beg the question; Was he painting on his own cave walls, or someone else’s cave walls??

The age old rub with graffiti…

Personally, I enjoy a bit of well done graffiti in a very urban setting, say NYC, but I’m slightly horrified by it in a small town like Santa Barbara, and that’s not a case of “not in my town” as I lived in NY for many years and I love the city. Can’t wait to be there in just a few days!

Thanks for bringing me back to my 80′s days on the Lower East Side of New York and for inspiring me to tag my yoga mat here in Boulder, Colorado. I’m definitely going to invite my children to join in. I realize how boring my little old mat has become during downward dogging it. Now I will have something to read and remind myself of my intentions while heading into the next chaturanga. I think you’re on to something.
