Water pumps are essential to buildings, homes and industrial plants for supplying water from underground sources. The precise ways they work rely on the nature of use that they are required for. There are as many types available today because there are many purposes that these pumps serve.

The simplest water pumps are known as well pumps and are regularly used for providing water to households and buildings or structures. The water is acquired from an underground source and the capacity with which it is supplied through the pump is dependent on how much water is needed. The pumps themselves are buried underground but they move water through motors that are placed above the ground. One is their ability to work at lesser power, thus, eliminating the risk of overheating. They also do not need an electrical line nor pipes as they rely mainly on photovoltaic solar panels running on DC power, and they are easy and cheap to maintain. Solar water pumps are apparently very useful in rural farms or ranches where electricity is not readily available. On top of these, these pumps are environment-friendly in that they do not end up in CO2 emissions which bring hazard to the ozone layer. Even in urban areas, even when electricity goes out, a solar pump can come in handy because they can still operate.

There are two basic concepts you should consider before deciding which one is more suitable if you are planning to buy a solar- powered water pump. Direct direct-coupled solar pumping systems only work when the sun is up because it is one whereby the solar power is provided directly to the pump from photovaltaic panels. Therefore, how much water can be pumped depends on how much sunlight there is and, of course, the kind of pump itself.
