Cardinals' Rhodes maintains big-picture focus

Cardinals safety Kerry Rhodes’ has myriad off-field interests which earned him the nickname “Hollywood” while he was with the New York Jets. The talented safety left New York under allegations that he had lost his focus on the game. In his book, “Play Like You Mean It,” Jets coach Rex Ryan called Rhodes selfish, but Rhodes put the past behind him and silenced his critics with a monster first season in Arizona. He still pursues those off-field interests, but the Cards don't care so long as he performs.

FOXSportsArizona.com caught up with Rhodes following a GQ photo shoot for an entertaining Q & A that covered a lot of ground including Ryan, making movies, Jamie Foxx, Whitney Houston songs, fellow safety Adrian Wilson, the NFL lockout and the Cards' future.

FS Arizona: You just finished a photo shoot for GQ that will be running this fall. How did it go?

Rhodes: “It was fun. I worked with a great group of people. I went in at about noon and I was there until 5 p.m. It was a long day because they want the exact images they’re looking for, and if you don’t perform they do it again. I was just happy that it was for the fall issue, not summer, because I was wearing some clothes and not naked in it.”

FS Arizona: What did you model?

Rhodes: “The issue was a brand issue, so I wore Lacoste. I looked good in the clothes and their brand manager loved me, so maybe we’ll have an opportunity do some more stuff down the road. It was for their fall wardrobe, so I wore long sleeve shirts, some casual rugby shirts, some nice sweaters, button-ups with sweaters. I got to play dress up for a day. I felt like the black Ken Doll.”

FS Arizona: No Euro thongs, then?

Rhodes: No!  I love most things Euro, but I can't understand the thong, and I definitely won't wear it."

FS Arizona: You’ve had a busy offseason pursuing non-football interests. What other irons do you have in the fire?

Rhodes: “I’m working on some reality shows that I’m producing with a colleague through our own production company that we’re in the process of creating. I’m also focusing on sports in a couple of documentaries including one on the Louisville-Kentucky rivalry. We just got Clark Kellogg on board to do the commentary, so we’re looking forward to that one since I went to Louisville.

Did you read Jeanette's recent rave review of the Stroll 'n Tone classes ?  Well, she loved the class and thanks to the instructor, we are able to give away a punch card (or as they call it, a "push" card) that is good for 4 classes!  You and a child (or multiple children) can enjoy some time together as you get to exercise and chat with other moms.  What a great combination!  The classes meet in Prospect in the Norton Commons area and you can visit the Stroll 'n Tone website for information about when classes meet. 

Oh My Goodness, I want to win this contest! I am a teacher that is off during the summer and with a 10 weeks old baby I try getting out and walking, but it is so hard to go by myself (10 weeks olds are beautiful but not very conversational)! Right now the walking is the only this that I know to do, but I look forward to climbing trees, playing ball, and hiking!
