Henry Ford OptimEyes in Detroit took part in the World Sight Day Challenge for the third year in a row and raised funds so that others in developing countries can have access to eye care and glasses. Each year, the offices of Henry Ford OptimEyes come up with very creative ways to raise funds for World Sight Day Challenge such as hosting a whipped-cream pie throwing event that raised $400 this year, raffling off gift baskets, selling t-shirts, and also selling used books and baked good to patients.

I have been in the optical industry for over 25 years and was not aware of this charity that represented both my career and my passion for helping others. When I introduced the (World Sight Day Challenge) program to my company they were very excited and we now look forward every year to raising the bar on our donation said Herron.

The company also reports that patients often opt to round-up their eyewear purchases to make a donation to Optometry Giving Sight. For example, one patients invoice came to $620 and the patient opted to round-up the cost of the eyewear to $700, with the $80 difference being donated to Optometry Giving Sight.
