9-year-old gets Pokemon ban overturned
NEW YORK, June 16 (UPI) -- A New York 9-year-old said he convinced his school to overturn a ban on Pokemon trading cards by writing a letter touting the game's educational benefits.
Lucas Ayala, a student at the Our World Neighborhood Charter School in Queens, said he gave a letter arguing against the school's longstanding Pokemon ban to his teacher and soon the document was making the rounds at the school, the New York Daily News reported Thursday .
"I thought I could make my teacher realize Pokemon was educational," Ayala said. "The letter was supposed to be a joke but then my teacher gave it to other teachers ... . It was amazing."
Ayala said the letter explained how playing the game, which involves cards and dice, helped him hone his addition, subtraction and multiplication skills.
"It made me laugh," teacher Jennifer Toti said. "We teach the students they can use words for good, and if you use them the right way, you can change the world. He applied that to something that was important to him."
Administrators said the Pokemon ban was lifted last month for children in third grade and above. The card game can now be played at recess and in some math classes, they said.
A male black and white colobus monkey, shown with his mother, was born at the Saint Louis Zoo’s Primate House on May 20, it was announced June 21, 2011. The monkey is the first colobus to be born at the Zoo in 11 years. Colobus infants are born with all white hair and a pink face. In contrast, adults are primarily black, with white hair encircling their face and half of their tail. They have a distinctive mantle of long white hair extending from their shoulders around the edge of their back. Infants will change color gradually until they reach adult coloration at about six months. UPI/Saint Louis Zoo © 2011 United Press International, Inc. All Rights Reserved. You dont know what your talking about I’m sorry but you calling Holo’s “shiney’s” when “shinys” are when pokemon are a differnt color than normal.and Also when the card is “shiny” Not the picture of the pokemon but the Card its self like 1:37 Its called a Reverse Holo. Maybe they should have someone else to explain Pokemon because from the videos i’ve watched of you you always make a mistake. Like How to set of a game of pokemon. You were bending your cards when PleaseReadNextCommentThat i post
Last comment continued. When you were shuffleing you were bending the cards which if you had a rare card in that deck it would be woth less because of your shuffleing. Shall i go on. Btw i’m only 13. Please Reply i’m deeply waiting for you to respond and tell me how you Shall fix your error’s. And i Do NOT Care about spelling so, Please do not correct me if i miss spell something.
@ImBackinUpBackinUp The video is called “How to play pokemon” – therefore automatically it has a specific audience, those who are new to the game. So such teminology such as “holo” is unnecessary and would normally just confuse the adverage normal view of this video. Talking about calling things “reverse holos” and such serves no purpose to this video…
@DrLazaru Right But if the person is new and starts collecting And start asking “Do you have any shinys i can buy” When they might have shiny’s when the new person is wanting a Holo. I think you would need to teach someone the correct term instead of a term that will confuse ppl who know’s it. Such as “shiny” meaning a pokemon with a different color instead of Holo’s.
I knew it. I recently got some cards at the flea market, and I thought they we’re fake cause of a lot of spelling errors and wierd spacing. I was especially supicious of the Spinarak called Sugimori (I’m pretty sure Ken Sugimori isn’t a Spinarak), and the Slowbro that says it’s a Kabutops. I did get a nice Raichu that doesn’t have any errors, and it was 2 packs for $1.
