The Elizabeth City Kiwanis Club recently awarded scholarships to four students: Jinger Russell and Taylor Wagner of Northeastern; Tony Matthew Royle Jr. of Pasquotank and Courtney Cartwright of CamTech.
Calabrese of South Mills makes honor roll
Gardner-Webb University is pleased to announce that Danielle Marie Calabrese of South Mills, majoring in Elementary Education, made the Honor Roll during the Spring 2011 semester. The Honor Roll recognizes those outstanding students who achieve a grade point average (GPA) between 3.2 and 3.7 for the semester.
Hertford UMC awards scholarships
Kaitlynn Eure, Christopher Bittner, Jonathan Nixon and Deborah Swindell were recipients of scholarships given by Hertford United Methodist Church Members.
Kaitlynn Eure received the Ruth Winslow and Thelma Elliot Scholarship, the Joseph Lee Tunnell Scholarship, and the Hertford United Women Scholarship.
Christopher Bittner received the Dorothy Barbee Scholarship, the Frank and Anna Lee McGoogan Scholarship, the Joseph Lee Tunnell Scholarship, the Hertford United Methodist Men Scholarship, and the Hertford United Methodist Women Scholarship.
Jonathan Nixon received the Dorothy Barbee Scholarship, Ruth Winslow and Thelma Elliot Scholarship, and the Hertford United Methodist Women Scholarship.
Deborah Swindell received the Lessie Barbour and Robert Lee Knowles Scholarship and the Bertha Lane Circle Scholarship. Kaitlynn Eure is graduating from John A. Holmes High School, Christopher Bittner and Jonathan Nixon are graduating from Perquimans County High School, and Deborah Swindell is currently enrolled at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.
Leidy serves as page
The North Carolina Senate was honored recently to have Hannah Lee Leidy, a student at Lawrence Academy, served as a page. She is the daughter of John D. and Lee L. Leidy of Elizabeth City. Leidy was sponsored by Senator Stan White and appointed by the Senate President Pro Tempore, Phil Berger of Rockingham County. Statewide high school student in grades 9 through 12 serve as pages when the General Assembly is in session. They perform valuable duties for the Senators and their office staff. They attend daily Senate sessions, committee meetings, and assist staff members with office duties during the week they serve in the Legislature.
